Object Detection Notifications Issue

DW Spectrum’s Event Rules and Notification features can be combined to send email notifications when system analytics detects objects. However, issues may arise if the timestamp in the camera’s stream does not match the DW Spectrum Server’s timestamp.

This article will outline some things to check to ensure the success of outgoing email notifications, using object detection, from a DW Blackjack Ai Server.

**NOTE:  The Object Detection analytic feature requires the addition of an analytic plugin. DW Blackjack Ai Servers are specialized units built specifically for the integration of camera stream analytics.

**NOTE: Email notifications require the configuration of email server settings for the System. For more information, you may refer to the article “DW Spectrum - Email Server Setup”.

Supported/Affected Devices:

  • DW Blackjack Ai Servers
  • DW MEGApix Ai Cameras
  • DW MEGApix IVA Cameras

Checking Timestamps

If email notifications for Object Detection do not work, open a camera for viewing and check that you can call and view Bookmarks from the archive.

While viewing the playback, if the timestamp on the Bookmarks does not match the timestamp of the DW Spectrum Server’s time, there may be an inconsistency between the devices.

Connect with the camera’s web client and check the configuration settings. Navigate to the Date and Time settings to inspect the time mode.

If the camera is set to use an external NTP server has been manually set to a different time, change the settings so that the camera’s time settings will synchronize with the DW Spectrum Server computer.

After fixing the camera’s Time and Date settings, confirm that the Bookmark timestamps and DW Spectrum System time match up. If so, try to apply the Event Rule for sending email notifications again.

As the timestamp in the camera’s stream plays a significant role when interacting with DW Spectrum Event Rules, DW Blackjack Ai Server users should always ensure that camera settings are set to synchronize with the computer’s system time.
