Hardware ID (HWID)
Each Server has a unique Hardware ID that is determined by the computer’s, Motherboard, CPU, RAM, and Network Interface Card (NIC). In the case of Windows, the OS is also relevant. This identifier is created at the time of installation of the DW Spectrum Server software to the computer. This information is used to maintain license registry for Servers and is necessary for continued use of the registered licenses.
This article will outline where to locate the Hardware ID (HWID) of a DW Spectrum Server, using the DW Spectrum Client application.
Adding/Removing/Changes to:
- The Motherboard
- The BIOS Version
- The CPU
- The RAM
- The NIC
- The OS version (Windows)
Can all affect the reporting of the server HWID.

Locating the HWID
To locate the Server’s Hardware ID:
- Launch DW Spectrum and connect with your Server.
- Open the System Administration menu, then select the Licenses tab at the top of the window.
- Under the New License section, click on Manual Activation.
The Hardware ID (HWID) will display. Click the Copy button to copy the ID, if needed.
