Display Monitor Scaling Issue Fix

In some circumstances using a High Dots per Inch (HiDPI) display such as a large television or a high-resolution monitor with a server using Linux OS, the DW Spectrum Client desktop application may not be scaled correctly for the screen. For example, a common symptom is for the desktop client to have the top-left corner magnified and take up the entire display.

This article will provide instructions for how to use the Terminal program and potentially resolve display monitor scaling issues.

Supported/Affected Devices

  • DW Blackjack Server Series (Ubuntu/Linux)
  • DW Blackjack Ai Series (Ubuntu/Linux)

Resolving Scaling Issues

Problems with display monitor scaling is often related to applications that use the QT Platform on Ubuntu. Examples include applications such as KeePassXC and Virtual Box. Otherwise, the issue may be caused by the display monitor failing to scale correctly with the OS.

The following steps may resolve the issue in most circumstances but cannot be consider a catchall fix for all display scaling issues:

  1. At the server, launch the Terminal program (CTRL+ALT+T keys) and enter the command:

sudo nano ~/.profile

Press the Enter key to submit the command.

You will be prompted to enter the OS password.

  • DW Blackjack Server Default isDW5pectrum

  1. Another shell terminal instance will display. Use the arrow keys and navigate to the bottom of the new window.

At the bottom, add the following:

export QT_AUTO-SCREEN_SCALE_FACTOR=0

export QT_FONT_DPI=120

  1. To save the changes, press the CTRL+O keys and confirm the changes.

To close the settings window, press the CTRL+X keys.

Reboot the machine and test if the DW Spectrum Client scaling issue is resolved. If the issue not resolved, it is recommended to remove the settings that were added in Step 2 above.

You can try testing with a different display monitor as well since the issue is likely related to limited communication between the machine’s OS and the display monitor, not DW Spectrum.
