Adjusting Resource Files
There may be some situations where new devices, changes to existing devices, or changes to DW Spectrum will affect the way that the system interacts with a particular device through the ONVIF protocol. Common times related to such interactions include:
- Multi-sensor devices using multiple licenses instead of a single license.
- Pre-stitched images of multi-sensor panoramic cameras.
- Incorrect licensing issues (i.e. analog encoder using professional licenses).
- Specific advanced ONVIF options (ex. PTZ control).
When these items are found and identified, there may be updates to DW Spectrum’s resource file list that can be applied to resolve such issues. Typically, these adjustments are included in official software updates, but steps can sometimes be taken to improve device interactions until an official release is made available.
This article will outline how to implement a provided resource file to your DW Spectrum Server, using Windows or Ubuntu operating systems, when encountering an issue as described above.
Applying Resource Files
Windows OS Servers
To apply a resource file using Windows:
- Log into the DW Spectrum Server, using the desktop client application, and open the System Administration (CTRL+ALT+A) menu.
In the General tab, disable the auto-discovery setting. If a device is encountering an issue (as described in the previous section of this article), right-click on the device and delete it from the Resource Tree.
- Stop the Media Server by using either the tray tool icon or by navigating to the “Services” tool.
- Open the File Explorer and navigate to the following location:
C:\Program Files\Digital Watchdog\DW Spectrum\MediaServer
- Copy and paste the resource file directly into the directory. Do not place resource files into any of the sub-directory folders.
- After adding the resource file, start the Media Server again, then re-add the device to the DW Spectrum Server.
Ubuntu Linux OS Servers
To apply a resource file using Ubuntu:
- Log into the DW Spectrum Server, using the desktop client application, and open the System Administration (CTRL+ALT+A) menu.
In the General tab, disable the auto-discovery setting. If a device is encountering an issue (as described in the previous section of this article), right-click on the device and delete it from the Resource Tree.
- Open the Terminal program (CTRL+ALT+T) and access superuser control with the following command.
sudo su
You will be prompted to enter the password for the OS. By default, the OS password is “Dw5pectrum”.
**NOTE: The text will remain invisible while entering the superuser password.
- As the superuser, enter the following command to stop the Media Server.
service digitalwatchdog-mediaserver stop
- Copy the resource file to the desktop of the computer. This will make the file easier to locate and use in the following steps.
- Using the Terminal, enter the following command to change the directory to the computer’s desktop.
cd Desktop
- Enter the following command to copy the file from the desktop to the file directory where the resource file must be applied.
cp <resource file> /opt/digitalwatchdog/mediaserver/bin/
For example:
cp resource_data.json /opt/digitalwatchdog/mediaserver/bin/
- Next, run the following command to verify that the file has been copied successfully.
cd /opt/digitalwatchdog/mediaserver/bin/
Then enter the command:
ls
- Once the files have been verified, enter the following command to start the Media Server again.
service digitalwatchdog-mediaserver start
- After restarting the Media Server, re-add the device and verify if the issue has been resolved.
