Remote Factory Default

Due to physical limitations of hardware, cameras belonging to the MEGApix MTT and MVT series do not feature an option to factory reset the camera using a physical button. Instead, the device can only be defaulted by using the DW IP Finder software to locate and factory default the camera or by using the reset feature from within the camera’s web interface.

This article will outline how to factory default Digital Watchdog IP cameras that commonly do not feature a physical reset option using DW IP Finder or through the camera’s web interface.

Prerequisites

The computer using DW IP Finder must be physically connected to the same local network as the camera.  In some cases, it may be easier if this process is performed during a bench test, rather than leaving the camera in the installed location.

Before using DW IP Finder to default the camera, make sure that the DW IP Finder software is installed.  If you experience issues locating the camera with DW IP Finder, you may need to configure the Windows Firewall settings.

Supported/Affected Devices:

  • DW MEGApix® MxT IP Camera Series
    • DWC-MTT4Wi6, DWC-MTT4Wi36, DWC-MTT4Wi28, DWC-MTT4WiA [Discontinued]
    • DWC-MVT4Wi6, DWC-MVT4Wi28, DWC-MVT4Wi36, DWC-MVT4WiA [Discontinued]

Defaulting the MxT Camera

Default with DW IP Finder

To default a MEGApix® IP camera using DW IP Finder:

  1. Launch the DW IP Finder program and select the network card that is connected to the camera’s network.

At the bottom of the window, enter the camera’s Administrator Username and Password.

  1. Click the “Scan Devices” button to scan the network for cameras.

  1. Once the camera list has populated, you may either double-click on the target camera or click on the “Click” button under the Settings column to select the camera.

  1. Default the camera configuration.

**NOTE:  If you have not already done so, enter the camera’s Administrator Username and Password for authorization.

  1. The software will indicate that the camera will need to be rebooted.

  1. After rebooting, re-scan with DW IP Finder to locate the camera. The camera will be defaulted and can be reconfigured.

Default with Web Client

To default the camera using its web client:

  1. Log in to the camera as the administrator. If this is your first time connecting to the camera’s web client, you will be prompted to create a new administrator password.
  2. Select the “Config” tab and navigate to the “Maintenance” menu.

Click on “Backup and Restore”.

  1. Under the Default Settings section, select the setting configurations that you would like to retain. For a full factory default, do not opt to keep any of the settings.

Click the “Load Default” button to apply the factory default. The camera will need to reboot upon completing this process.
