Adding a DW-ENHD16 Compressor to a VMAX® IP Plus™ with RTSP

Real Time Streaming Protocol (RTSP)

The Real Time Streaming Protocol (RTSP) can be used by network devices to establish a connection between IP cameras and the receiving device, when communicating and streaming video.

Digital Watchdog’s Compressor™ Series analog-to-IP signal encoder allows users to stream analog video from analog security cameras through the network.  This is useful when a user wants to monitor their camera streams from an NVR, but the cameras only output an analog video signal.

This article will outline how to manually add the DW-ENHD16 analog-to-IP compressor to the VMAX IP Plus using RTSP.

 

**NOTE:  The individual cameras of the DW-ENHD16 Compressor will need to be added manually using RTSP as the VMAX IP Plus will not be able add the cameras simultaneously through ONVIF.

You may perform the setup directly at the VMAX IP Plus, however this guide will focus on the use of the web client from a computer, as it is reportedly easier to perform.

  • DW-ENHD16 (Compressor/Encoder)
  • VMAX® IP Plus™ Standalone NVR Series

 

Manually Adding the Compressor to a VMAX IP Plus RTSP

To add an ENHD16 compressor to the VMAX IP Plus:

  1. Open a web browser (Internet Explorer is recommended) and enter the IP Address and Web Port of the VMAX IP Plus into the address bar.

 

Example:

  • NVR IP Address:  192.168.1.90
  • Web Port:  8245
  • Example URL:  http://192.168.1.90:8245

 

**NOTE:  If you have not connected your VMAX IP Plus to the network, please complete the Network Setup for the VMAX IP Plus.

 

  1. Log in to the VMAX IP Plus by entering the User ID and Password of the system.
  • Default ID:  admin
  • Default Password:  <no password>

 

  1. Click on the “Setup tab at the top of the screen, then select the Record tab.

Next, select “Registration”.

In the top, right-hand corner of the Registration menu, enter the User ID and Password of the Compressor (ENHD16).

  • Default ID:  admin
  • Default Password:  admin

 

  1. Change the Protocol to the “RTSP” option.

Through the VMAX IP Plus web viewer, select the Channel of the NVR that you are assigning to the NVR Compressor Channel stream to.

 

  1. In the RTSP 1st URL box, enter the RTSP address of the compressor’s camera Primary stream.

In the RTSP 2nd URL box, enter the RTSP address of the compressor’s camera Secondary stream.

  1. Click the “Manual Add” button to add the camera to the VMAX IP Plus.

Example:

 

  1. Repeat Steps 4 – 6 for any additional analog camera streams that you would like to add from the Compressor (ENHD16) to the NVR (VMAX IP Plus).
