Authentication Issues

All devices come with a predefined login and password.  During the auto discovery process, DW Spectrum attempts to use Digital Watchdog’s default login credentials to access devices and acquire media streams.

However, if new cameras that are auto discovered are not using the default login of admin/admin, streaming issues will occur as the security authentication settings do not match.  This article will explain how to change the Authentication credentials used by DW Spectrum for discovered devices.

If you are using a new MEGApix camera and have not assigned a new password to the device, please read Assigning Passwords to IP Cameras.

Changing DW Spectrum Device Authentication

If the login and password of a device does not match the default authentication settings of DW Spectrum, the deviceis shown as “Unauthorized” and displays a notification symbol in the Resource Tree.  Attempting to display video streams from the device results in an error message.

To change the DW Spectrum Authentication settings:

  1. Right-click on the device and select Camera Settings.
  • Note:  If you are changing device settings for multiple devices, you can simultaneously apply the changes to a group of devices by holding the CTRL key and selecting individual devices or by holding the Shift key to select a group of devices.  The setting changes will be applied to all devices that are grouped.

  1. Under the General tab, click Edit Credentials under the Authentication section.

  1. A pop-up for Authentication credentials will display.  Enter the Login and Password of the device(s), click OK, then click Apply to save the login changes.
