Ultinous U-Filter

DW’s integration partner, Ultinous, provides a filtering service for alarm management that can be integrated with DW Spectrum IPVMS.

This article will outline how to integrate the Ultinous U-Filter Service with DW Spectrum including how to acquire the necessary Camera IDs, creating Event Rules in DW Spectrum, and registering cameras in U-Filter.

How Ultinous U-Filter Works

Ultinous U-Filter can be used to filter events to reduce the false alarm rate for Ultinous users. U-Filter works as follows:

  1. Events are triggered by cameras through motion detection or intrusion analytics.
  2. The camera sends an email with a JPEG snapshot attachment to U-Filter.
  3. U-Filter analyzes the image and determines if the alarm is false.
  4. If the incident is legitimate, U-Filter sends a notification to your operator software.

Once an e-mail is received and filtered, analysis enters a configurable cooldown period, during which analysis will be paused and no events will be filtered. Analysis will resume once the cooldown period has ended.

**NOTE:  The maximum size of the image that can be sent through e-mail or HTTP input for U-Filter is 3840x3840p.

Part 1: Setting Up Cameras and Rules in DW Spectrum

Before you start, make sure that:

  • You have a registered account for your DW Spectrum System
  • Cameras have been configured and set up in U-Filter.

  1.

1.1 Acquiring Camera IDs

The camera IDs of each camera in DW Spectrum are needed for integration with Ultinous U-Filter. To find the Camera ID of each camera:

  1. Register the camera on the DW Spectrum Server. This can be done by either using the Auto Detection feature or by manually adding the camera.
  2. Once the device has been added, right-click on the camera and select “Camera Settings”.

In Camera Settings, click on the “More Info” drop-down button.

  1. Locate and copy the Camera ID of the device. This identifier will be used when setting up the Ultinous U-Filter later on, so it may be helpful to copy it to your clipboard or to a text application (Notebook, Word, etc.).

1.2 Setting Camera Recording and Creating Event Rules

In addition to registering the camera in DW Spectrum, you will need to configure the camera’s recording schedule and set up Event Rules to create Bookmarks when events are generated by Ultinous AI Suite.

To set up camera recording and rules:

  1. Right-click on the camera and select “Camera Settings”.

Open the Recording tab and enable the “Recording” setting.

**NOTE:  One recording license is required per each camera that will be recorded to the DW Spectrum Server’s media folders.

  1. To configure the camera to ONLY record if an event has been logged and is set up specifically set up to record the triggering incident, use the “Do Not Record” schedule type and paint the entire Recording Schedule range black.

**NOTE:  In some cases, you may still want to regularly record video from the camera. If so, use the Record Always option instead. It is recommended to also set a minimum and maximum “Keep Archive For…” settings to set a custom retention period. If you choose to do this, setting up Camera Recording rules in Step 10 below is optional.

  1. Switch back to the General tab then click on the “Camera Rules” button.

  1. Click the “+Add” button to create a new Event Rule.

  1. In the Event section, set the “When” setting to the “Generic Event” option.

**NOTE:  It is recommended to enter a name for your event in the Caption contains field to make identifying the event easier. If a name is set for the vent, be sure to copy the name of the solution to your clipboard or text application so that it can be registered in the Ultinous AI Suite later.

  1. In the Action section, set the “Do” setting to the “Bookmark” option.

  1. For the “at” setting, click on “Select at least one camera”.
  2. Select the camera that you have been setting up from the list.

**NOTE:  It is recommended to untick the Fixed duration box and to instead set a custom timeframe for the entry’s duration. For example, 5 seconds for the pre-recording and post-recording settings.

  1. Next, click the +Add button again to create another Event Rule.
  2. Repeat Steps 5-8 but select “Camera Recording” for the Action > Do setting.

**NOTE:  Creating an additional rule for Camera Recording is optional if you have already chosen to use the Record Always recording schedule from Step 2.

  1. Click the OK button to apply and save the new Event Rules.

Repeat this process for each camera that will be integrated with Ultinous AI Suite.

1.3 Ultinous U-Filter in DW Spectrum

Next, to set DW Spectrum to open the web interface of U-Filter within the DW Spectrum Client, perform the following:

  1. In the left panel, right-click on “Web Pages” and select “Add Web Page”.

  1. In the dialogue window, enter the address that you use to access Ai Suite into the “URL” field.

Enter a Name for the link then click on the “OK” button.

  1. After adding the web page, you can use the embedded browser to log in to Ultinous U-Filter if needed. Be aware that, depending on your network, using the embedded browser may have a slower response time than if you were to use a web browser application (Google Chrome, Firefox, etc.) instead.

Part 2: Setting Up Ultinous U-Filter

2.1 Adding Camera IDs to U-Filter

To register camera IDs in U-Filter:

  1. Open the U-Filter Web UI and navigate to your Site.

Select the Site containing the target camera.

  1. Click the “Configure” button for the target channel/camera.
  2. In the “External ID” field, copy/paste the Camera ID that was acquired from Part 1.1 of this guide.
  3. Enter the Name for the camera and any other necessary information to help identify the channel.

Click “Save”. Repeat this process for any additional cameras that were registered to DW Spectrum.

Part 3: Using the Integration

3.1 Viewing Incidents in DW Spectrum

Once the AI Suite configuration is complete, DW Spectrum will be ready to receive event notifications from Ultinous AI Suite.

If an event is triggered in AI Suite, the entry will appear in the Notifications tab, located in the right-hand panel of the DW Spectrum Client. Events can be found by searching in the Bookmarks tab and can be viewed by double-clicking on a bookmark or notification.
