System Recovery

In the event of System errors, software corruption, or display issues, recovery firmware can be applied as a final troubleshooting step.  By running the recovery program, the Compressor will be defaulted and reverted to an older version of its firmware, resolving most operational issues. Once the recovery is complete, the system can be upgraded back to the latest release.

This firmware recovery guide is intended for users who encounter system startup failure or experiencing symptoms of file system corruption.

Supported/Affected Devices:

  • DW-ENHD16 Compressor

Required Equipment

  • USB Stick (FAT32 format; should not exceed 32 GB)
  • Display Monitor (connected to the Compressor)
  • USB Mouse (connected to the Compressor)

Note:  It is recommended to avoid the use of Kingston and San Disk brand USB sticks, as the Compressor may experience an issue while allocating the firmware files from the USB.

Downloading Recovery Files

Use the following link to download the recovery firmware files for your Compressor.  There will be a Download button in the DropBox webpage.

Click Here to download the recovery files from DropBox to your computer.

Recovering The System

To perform a firmware recovery, please follow these steps:

  1. Download the recovery firmware files from the link above.

  1. Extract the contents of the downloaded folder.

  1. Copy the diag3531A folder to a blank USB stick (FAT32 format).

Make sure that the files are not zipped in a compressed folder.

Once the folder is copied to the USB stick, you may eject the USB from the computer.

Note:  Do not change the folder name.  Make sure that the folder is named diag3531A.

  1. Power off the Compressor.

Right-click with the mouse to prompt the context menu, then select Shutdown.

You will know that the system has powered off when the power LED light is no longer illuminated on the front panel of the Compressor.

  1. Insert the USB stick into a vacant USB port of the Compressor.

  1. Power on the Compressor.

Disconnect then reconnect the power cable of the unit.

There is no power button.  The system boots up automatically upon connection to an external power source.

  1. The Compressor will begin running the recovery program from the USB stick automatically.  It is normal if the unit begins to beep at this time.

Once the firmware recovery has been completed, the system will reboot.

Please disconnect the USB stick from the Compressor at this time.

Upgrading Firmware

Following running the firmware recovery, the system will be using an outdated firmware version.

Follow the instructions below to update the Compressor to the latest firmware build:

  1. Open a web browser and visit https://digital-watchdog.com.

Enter the model number of the Compressor (located on the sticker, physically on top of the unit).

Or click here:  DW-ENHD16 Product Page

  1. Scroll down the product page and locate the Software tab.

  1. Locate the latest Version of firmware for your Compressor.

Click the Download button to download the firmware update.

  1. Copy the firmware update to a blank USB stick (FAT32 format).

Feel free to clear the USB stick that was used for the firmware recovery.  Make sure that there are no other files on the USB other than the new firmware update.

Note:  Make sure that the firmware file is not in a folder.

Applying the Firmware Upgrade

  1. Insert the USB to the Compressor.

If you have not already done so, make sure that you are logged in as the Administrator or as a user with administrator privileges.

  • Default Username:  admin
  • Default Password:  admin
  1. Right-click with the mouse to prompt the context menu.

Select Setup.

  1. Select the F/W Upgrade tab.

Set the Device to USB, then click the Refresh button.

Once the new firmware file is detected, click the Start button.

  1. Allow the Compressor to complete the upgrade process.  Once complete, the system will reboot.

You may remove the USB stick after the unit is done rebooting.
