DW IP Finder Software

The DW IP Finder software is available for use on systems using an Ubuntu/Linux operating system.  DW IP Finder can be utilized to scan your local IP network to locate and identify Digital Watchdog MEGApix IP cameras.  This is especially useful when combined with the software’s additional support features such IP address assignment, password assignment, and device maintenance.

This article will outline how to install DW IP Finder on devices using an Ubuntu operating system, creating a desktop shortcut for the program, and how to uninstall DW IP Finder.

 

Downloading the Installation File

To download the installation file:

  1. Open a web browser and visit https://digital-watchdog.com/productdetail/DW-IP-Finder/.
  2. Select the “Software” tab then click on the “Download” button to download DW IP Finder for Linux OS.

 

Installing DW IP Finder on Ubuntu

To install DW IP Finder:

  1. Locate the installation file in the computer’s Downloads folder.
  2. Right-click on the installation file, then select “Properties”.

 

  1. The Properties window will display.

Select the Permissions tab and enable the “Allow executing files as program” setting (located under “Execute”).

 

  1. Next, double-click on the Installation file icon (.pkg.run) to start the installation wizard.

 

  1. The DW Finder Installer Setup installation wizard will display.

Follow through the installation wizard to install the DW IP Finder software.

 

  1. If you are installing the DW IP Finder software on a DW Blackjack Server, the installation wizard will prompt you to enter the system’s Administrator password.

Enter the computer’s Administrator password, then click the OK button.

  • The default sudo password for DW Blackjack units is “Dw5pectrum”.

Once the installation has been completed, click the Finish button.

 

  1. DW IP Finder can be searched for and launched in the File Manager tool.

 

Creating a Desktop Shortcut for DW IP Finder

Rather than having to launch DW IP Finder using the Show Applications tool, a desktop icon can be created as a shortcut.  To create a desktop shortcut:

  1. Open the File Manager and navigate to:

/usr/share/applications

 

  1. Locate and right-click on the DW IP Finder icon.

Select “Copy To…”.

 

  1. When selecting the destination, select “Desktop”.

 

  1. Next, on the Desktop, double-click on the dw-ip-finder.desktop icon.

A confirmation window will display.  Click the “Trust and Launch” button.

 

  1. The DW IP Finder icon will be placed on the Desktop.

To launch the program, double-click on the DW IP Finder shortcut icon.

 

Uninstalling DW IP Finder

To uninstall the DW IP Finder program:

  1. Open the File Manager application and navigate to the folder:

/opt/DW-IP-Finder

 

  1. Double-click the “uninstall” option and follow the installation wizard to uninstall the DW IP Finder software.

 

  1. If you are uninstalling the DW IP Finder software from a DW Blackjack Server, the installation wizard will prompt you to enter the system’s Administrator password.

Enter the computer’s Administrator password, then click the OK button.

  • The default sudo password for DW Blackjack units is “Dw5pectrum”.

Once the uninstallation has been completed, click the Finish button.

 

**NOTE:  If you have copied a DW IP Finder icon as a shortcut to the computer’s desktop, you may delete the icon following uninstallation.
